SMO – Social Media Optimization

SMO – Social Media Optimization

Social media optimization (SMO) is the process of increasing the awareness of a product, brand or event by using a number of social media outlets and communities to generate viral publicity.
Social media optimization includes using RSS feeds, social news and bookmarking sites, as well as social media sites and video and blogging sites. SMO is similar to SEO (search engine optimization) in that the goal is to drive traffic to your Web site.

Social Media Optimization (SMO) puts your company in an optimum position to tap into the rich interactions that naturally occur in social media platforms—discussions about your brand and conversations between you and your customers.
When you work with our SMO team, you’ll get a clear picture of what people are saying about your company, where they are saying it, where you should get involved, and how to leverage social media to increase brand reputation and awareness.

Social media sites ( YouTube, and Facebook , etc) are a popular distribution outlet for users looking to share their experiences and interests on the Web. These sites host substantial amounts of user-contributed materials (e.g., photographs, videos, and textual content) for a wide variety of real-world events of different type and scale. By automatically identifying these events and their associated user-contributed social media documents, which is the focus of this paper, we can enable event browsing and search in state-of-the-art search engines. To address this problem, we exploit the rich “context” associated with social media content, including user-provided annotations (e.g., title, tags) and automatically generated information (e.g., content creation time). Using this rich context, which includes both textual and non-textual features, we can define appropriate document similarity metrics to enable online clustering of media to events. As a key contribution of this paper, we explore a variety of techniques for learning multi-feature similarity metrics for social media documents in a principled manner. We evaluate our techniques on large-scale, real-world datasets of event images from Flickr. Our evaluation results suggest that our approach identifies events, and their associated social media documents, more effectively than the state-of-the-art strategies on which we build.

Social Media Optimization has become an important part of overall digital marketing. Interactions via social media are more crucial than ever—and unless you communicate and associate with your audience, you are bound to lose a valuable advantage.
This is why SMO is vital. When combined with traditional SEO, it can take your online marketing efforts to the next level, allowing you to achieve a ‘master strategy’ that reaps solid results. As your SMO provider, SEOValley can help you create a strong brand identity on social media—an image and a reputation that appeals to your target audience.

Definition of SMO:

• Social Bookmarking
• Social Profile Listing
• Social Event Marketing
• Blogging
• Photo Sharing
• Question and Answers

• Broadened client base
• Broadened reach/ target market
• Improved conversions
• Improved brand awareness
• Cost effective online advertising

Social Media Optimization Tips:
Optimize Profiles
The most basic SMO tip is to optimize all of your social media profiles. Typically, businesses should use their logo as their profile picture and a branded cover photo. Each username should be as consistent as possible and involve the name of the business. This ensures that all of your social profiles are easily identifiable to your audience and search engines. Also, include a concise bio that clearly explains what your business does along with a link to your website. For more lengthy “about” sections like those on Facebook and LinkedIn, fill out as much information about your business as you can. If users have a question about your business, the answers will be laid out for them so they are easy to find. Now that your profiles are nice and optimized, it’s time to tackle content.

What is the benifits of SMO?
1.Increase your target audience. It has been found that over 74% of the world population uses social media, while
many expect to find products and services online. The number of users has tilted with an increase of online
users. At the same time, TV, media and traditional outlets are decreasing. Creating and highlighting a page with
your business products and services will attract those that are actively looking through social media to find
your specific business.
2.Increasing your presence. There are several social media networks that you will want to plug into for your
business. This extends the number of individuals you reach to learn about your business. Some networks you will
want to increase activity in are Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Pinterest, You Tube, Google +, Stumble Upon,
Delicious, Reddit and Tumblr.
3.Optimization for better searches. When you add your business products and services into a social media network,
the keywords are categorized and read by the network. They are also read by Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search
engines. This doubles your efforts to be found online and to reach your target audiences through search terms.
